How to record League of Legends?
Before we explain how to record League of Legends, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Developed by Riot Games back in 2009, League of Legends is a MOBA game played by millions of players worldwide. Inspired by the Defense of the Ancients (OG DotA), every match plays out on the same map, but no two games are the same. The opposing teams consist of 5 players each, and there are currently over 150 champions to choose from, each with unique skills and abilities. LoL is quite noob-friendly and easy to get into. On the other hand, the skill cap is extremely high, so it’s a perfect game for casuals and tryhards alike.
Making a League of Legends recording has never been easier! Whether you want to watch the videos to learn from your mistakes and improve or share some epic moments with a targeted audience, all you need to do is follow a few simple steps.
Step 1
First and foremost, download and install game recording software Insights Capture. Follow the instructions and customize the recording settings according to your PC specs. There is an appropriate option for every setup, so even if your PC is a bit outdated, you can still make awesome videos. Choose the video library folder to store your recordings in and set the storage limit. You can always change the initial choices in the Settings menu, explore additional options, and customize the default keybindings.

Step 2
Launch League of Legends while Insights Capture is running in the background. You’ll notice the overlay in the top right while playing, indicating that the game recording is active.
Step 3
There are three ways of capturing gameplay footage with this recording software:
- Automatic detection feature — the recording starts automatically when the game begins and ends once it’s finished
- Pressing the hotkey to start/stop recording (F7 default hotkey)
- Instant Replay (F6 default hotkey) — capture the previous X seconds of gameplay. You can enable this feature in the Settings menu and adjust the duration of the instant replay clip (from 15 seconds up to 10 minutes). You’ve just survived a gank and made an epic 1v2 outplay? Hit that hotkey and back it up with evidence!
Step 4
You’re recording! The in-game overlay in the top right corner of your screen will signal that the recording has started. You can always start/stop the recording using hotkeys.
Step 5
Once you close LoL, you’ll be taken to the Insights Capture dashboard automatically. You can turn this feature off in the App tab of the Settings menu. The most recent video created will be played when you come back, and you can access the dashboard anytime by hitting the default Alt+H hotkey.
